This was an exercise that had very little worth to to me and it is best avoided as this seems to be a part of "pop" spirituality. If it was not required for the course, then I would not have taken such a "quiz." Such things are misguided and reduce the subject of hermeneutics to the level of pop psychology.

Interesting, but I didn't find the distinctions helpful in all cases. For instance, #1 seemed to represent to me a multifaceted explanation of the same phenomena. Why could not God have inspired in confluence with the authors who were speaking from within a community and its traditions to sacramentally lead us to God? The same with #2. What is wrong with the Bible being God's exact words that he wanted to use to convey a timeless message requiring interpretation and contextualization to be lived in every age? When one looks at a leaf through a microscope or as it is held in the hand or from a distance as part of a tree (or even a forest), the perspective alters what we see, but the leaf is the same. I get the feeling from many of these questions, that we are given a microscope, handheld, and panoramic view and asked to choose which one is meaningful.

As a Bible major from a conservative Christian University, I was confused with some of the wording selections. Like Diana stated, the "gray areas" were a little mis-leading but overall, it was worth the time to take. I recommend it to others to see how their answers stack up as compared to the author's views.
